A Pair of Early Kangxi Blue and Doucai ‘Eighteen Luohan’ Brush Pots

康熙早期 景德镇窑青花斗彩“十八罗汉”图筒瓶一对

Dimensions: 6"W x 6"D x 18.75"H (15.24cm * 15.24cm * 47.63cm)

A pair of cylindrical brush pots from the early Kangxi period, of straight-sided form with characteristic jade-disc bases. Based on their scale and pictorial richness, these vessels were likely intended for display.

Each is decorated with a continuous panoramic scene of the Eighteen Luohan, rendered in a lively and expansive composition. The figures are animated and expressive, reflecting the distinctive painting style of the early Qing transitional period.

The foot is unglazed with a neatly trimmed edge, showing clear turning marks. The exposed body is of a pale buff tone, with natural “firestone red” and areas of burial accretion.

The body shows slight irregularities from hand-throwing, with gentle undulations along the walls. Surface deposits and accumulated residues are consistent with age and long-term natural condition.

A well-preserved pair with clear early Kangxi characteristics, combining strong decorative appeal with refined craftsmanship.
